Location: Mostly remote (up to 1 day/week travel to D.C.)
Role Type: 1099 Independent Contractor

About the Role
Our growing lobbying firm is seeking a highly organized, proactive Government Relations Assistant to support our legislative and advocacy efforts. This is an ideal position for someone with a deep interest in the political process who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment. As a contractor, you will have the flexibility of remote work while playing a critical role in weekly D.C. operations for multiple clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Legislative Monitoring: Reviewing introduced legislation and monitoring bills for applicability to client interests.
- Administrative Support: Scheduling high-priority meetings with legislative offices and stakeholders.
- Document Preparation: Preparing advocacy folders, briefing materials, and other documents for distribution during Hill meetings.
- Drafting & Reporting: Drafting legislative updates, summaries, and newsletters for internal and client use.
- Outreach & Research: Creating and maintaining outreach lists, identifying sponsorship opportunities, and researching potential advocacy partners.
- In-Person Representation: Traveling to Washington, D.C. up to once per week for meetings, hearings, or document delivery.
Qualifications
- Organization: Superior organizational and time-management skills are a must.
- Communication: Strong writing skills and the ability to draft professional correspondence.
- Reliability: Ability to manage a remote workload and commit to regular weekly travel to D.C.
- Education & Passion: A college degree and a passion for politics are preferred but not strictly required for the right candidate.
- Tech-Savvy (Plus): Experience with website updates, event planning software, or legislative tracking tools (e.g., FiscalNote, VoterVoice) is a significant advantage.
Contract Terms
- This is an independent contractor (1099) position. The successful candidate will be responsible for their own equipment, taxes, and insurance.
- Remuneration is commensurate with experience, paying $1,000-$3,000 per month depending on specific expertise.
